Length of the lake: 636 km.

Greatest width: 79,5 km.

Smallest width: 27 km.

Extent of the coastline: 2000 km.

Quantity of the capes: 174 (according to the data Of I.D. Cherskiy).

Quantity of the islands: 26 (according to the data Of o.G. Gusev, 1990). Largest of them Olkhon.

Largest molded edges: Barguzinskiy (725 sq. km.), Chivyrkuyskiy (270 sq. km.), Proval (197 sq. km.).

It falls the rivers: 336 (according to the data Of I.D. Cherskiy).

Largest inflow: Selenga river.

It escapes from Baykal: one Angar River.

Temperature of water in the open lake in summer: highest 16°S, lowest 0°S.

Temperature of water in the shoal on the coast: highest in August 23 °S.

Warmest water in the molded edges: Mukhor (small sea), The Chivyrkuyskiy molded edge, embassy litter.

Period of the ice formation: On January 15 - on May 1.
